Python for Finance

Crypto trading is the main activity in this ecosystem. Several **trading methods** have emerged over the years and experiences. On the CryptoRobot channel we have presented some of them to you. Nevertheless, there are 3 that are out of the ordinary because they will depend on the **duration of trading** wanted. 

Some traders will want to do as many trades as possible in a few minutes while others will take more time and accept longer trades. These methods range from very short term (**Scalping**) to medium term (**Day Trading**) to long term (**Long Term**).

In this article we will study day trading.

## Where does Day Trading come from and how do you do it?

Day Trading** comes from traditional finance. 

Traditional stock exchanges have **operating hours**. They coincide with the time zone in which the exchange is located. The goal was to create a **framework for trading** by having appropriate hours for everyone.

The CAC 40 opens for trading from 9am to 5:30pm. There is a **pre-trade** phase where orders accumulate but cannot be executed.

Day trading is a method of opening and closing positions in a single day. Why do this? 

Between the closing and the opening of the market, many things can happen that can **influence** the general opinion of an asset. 

In this case, a very **high volatility** can happen at the opening of the market. If the market had stayed open all night, the volatility could have smoothed out or potentially taken action to protect itself.  

By closing all positions before the market closes, it **protects** the investor from a risk that he cannot quantify.

Day trading is therefore there to meet this need.

In cryptos, the market is open 24/7. By applying Day Trading we will force ourselves to close all our positions **before the end of the day**. By doing this, you are not exposed to the market when you are asleep or to the traditional markets that open and close constantly.

In day trading you will be trading on medium to short timeframes so you must have the right indicators. The strategies we present on our YouTube channel are in day trading. The purpose of this article is to introduce you to the best indicators for day trading. ## Trend indicators :

### TRIX

The **TRIX** is our **in-house** trend indicator. It is composed of 3 stacked exponential moving averages. This configuration offers a **stronger reactivity** to different market dynamics. For day trading, this reactivity is necessary to keep trades short.

The TRIX is composed of 2 lines and a histogram (difference between the 2 lines). The first line is the TRIX and the second is its average. The bullish or bearish crossings between the TRIX and its average are action zones. The middle line of 0 gives an additional indication of the market trend.

I recommend **coupling the TRIX** with other confirmation indicators to clean up false signals.

### MACD

Still in moving averages, we have the **MACD**. This indicator is built around a short and a long simple moving average. The short average brings the reactivity allowing the indicator to fluctuate strongly in timeframe 30 M or 1h.

Like the TRIX, the MACD is composed of 2 lines and the corresponding histogram. The first line refers to the MACD and the second to its average. Bullish or bearish crossings between the MACD and its average are entry or exit points. The median line of 0 indicates a certain direction of the trend. Finally, **divergences** are worth studying because they are very powerful on the MACD. A divergence on a high timeframe can guide your day trading.

I recommend pairing the MACD with other confirmation indicators to clean up false signals.

## Oscillators

### Aroon

The **Aroon** is part of the oscillator family. Unlike its brother RSI, the Aroon is composed of 2 lines. The first one is "Up" and the second one is "Down". These 2 lines oscillate between 0 and 100. The Aroon Up increases in value when a market top is formed. If you are in an uptrend, the price will print several **Tops** in a row and thus allow the Aroon Up to stay at 100. Conversely, the Aroon Down will reach 100 when the price goes down and **Bottom** appears successively. 

A bullish trend will therefore have an Aroon Up at 100 while a bearish trend will have the Aroon Down at 100.

This indicator comes into play at the time of the **validation of a trade**. A buy can only be made if the Aroon Up is at 100 or if the average of the Aroon Up over the previous X candles is higher than the average of the Aroon Down. Conversely for a sale.

### RSI and Stochastic RSI

The **RSI** is **the oscillator par excellence**. It will vary between 0 and 100 to tell us if the market is overbought, oversold or balanced. The overbought, where the area between 70 and 100 corresponds to the moment when the market is increasing and there is excessive buying compared to the average. Conversely with oversold in the area between 0 and 30. The price tends to return to equilibrium in the middle zone (30 to 70).

The Stochastic RSI uses the same principle but is much more reactive.

The 2 indicators can be used to confirm or not transactions. A purchase cannot be overbought and vice versa for a sale. Moreover, the simple RSI allows the study of **divergences**.

## - Volatility indicators

### Bollinger Bands

The best known volatility indicator is probably the **Bollinger Bands**. It indicates whether the market is experiencing **high volatility or not**. It consists of 2 lines that mostly encompass the price. An upper and a lower band. These bands are calculated by adding or subtracting the standard deviation from the moving average price. When the bands are tight, volatility is low and conversely when they are wide. 

The indicator provides information on the **dynamics of the market**. Moreover, if the volatility is high, the price can break its bands. If a band is broken it can be considered as excess volatility and therefore a return to normal in the next few candles.

### The Keltner channel

Same principle as the Bollinger Bands but here the channel adds or subtracts the ATR instead of the standard deviation. This small difference affects the evolution of the indicator and therefore its sensitivity. We often advise to test this channel of **Keltner** instead of the Bollinger bands. You never know, it can bring good surprises.

### The Donchian Channel

A third channel that differs from the other two. We find the upper and lower channel but the calculation is different. Here, the value of the upper channel represents the maximum of the **high** on the X previous candles. For the lower channel it is the minimum of the **low** of the X previous candles. In the case of the Donchian channel, the price can never break the channel up or down.

This indicator can be used if you combine it with different parameters. If the short term Donchian is lower than the long term Donchian you have a bearish trend and vice versa.

### Chopiness

Our latest volatility indicator behaves like a **oscillator**. The **chopiness** oscillates between 0 and 100 and indicates the underlying volatility. Between 0 and 30, there is high volatility, a trend is underway. Between 70 and 100, there is little volatility, the market is stable. The indicator does not indicate the direction of the trend only if there is one.

Chopiness can be used to **confirm trades**. Enter a position only if the chopiness is below 30, when there is a trend.

## Volume Indicator

### Volume Anomaly

Another **home made indicator** representing the candles according to the associated volume. Volume is an extremely important metric. A candle is much more **credible** when volume is present. A break of support/resistance with volume confirms the move. 

 You have 6 types of candles:

- The **red** : Negative candle with a very strong volume
- The **violet** : Negative candle with a high volume but lower than the red one
- The **black** : Negative candle without significant volume

- The **green** : positive candle with a very strong volume
- The **blue** : positive candle with a significant volume but lower than the green one
- Grey**: positive candle with no significant volume

This indicator can be used to confirm **breakouts** of lines or patterns. In addition, the Volume Anomaly allows the study of trend reversals. The sequence between a red and a green candle (larger than the red one) indicates a reversal of the market.

## Conclusion

Day trading is probably the most **adapted** trading method if you want to trade on the market. It allows for a thorough study of the market **dynamics** and indicators. In addition, a longer term analysis will allow you to adapt your trades.
Being exposed to a single position for a maximum of 24 hours allows you to cover yourself from excessive volatility. Day trading, for your trading bots, will limit your **drawdown** and offer a sufficient quantity of trades for analysis.

Day trading combines deep market analysis with some recurrence of trades. The perfect mix between scalping and long term trading.

## Introduction, a miracle technology ?

When we hear about crypto-currencies, the term **blockchain** often comes up and rightly so. The blockchain is the basis of the whole ecosystem of decentralized cryptocurrencies and it is thanks to it that a lot of projects have been able to develop. Blockchain technology, not to mention the cryptos that can be derived from it, represents one of the **biggest technological advances** of the last few decades. Its future uses are enormous in the field of cryptocurrencies, in classical finance or in everyday life.

The literal translation of blockchain would be "a chain of blocks" and its function could be summarized as : A **decentralized network** of validation and recording of transactions. We will go into more detail in this article so that you can understand everything and interact more efficiently in this ecosystem. 

## How a blockchain works ?

As stated above, the role of the blockchain is to validate the transactions of a network in a decentralized way. To understand the mechanism we will take an example. 

In the classical financial system, you have 3 actors, you, your money and the bank. When you want to make transactions (buy, sell, deposit, withdraw...) you **have to ask for the authorization** to your bank. It has the right to refuse your transaction if it considers that it does not meet certain criteria. If the bank defaults, you will surely lose your investment, like what happened during the subprime crisis. 

In a decentralized network, the intermediary that will validate your transactions is not a single entity. Instead, you have a set of "validators/miners" from all over the world who will have the unique role of validating your requests without having the possibility to refute them. Each time a validator validates a transaction, it is recorded for life in a **large library** on the internet called the blockchain. There is no superior entity that can go bankrupt and thus reduce your investments to nothing. There are only validators (sometimes anonymous) like you and me who will have access to the blockchain via the internet.

Now let's imagine that I want to perform a transaction on a certain blockchain to send cryptos to a friend. Here is what will happen :

1. In my wallet I have 1 BTC that I want to send
 
2. I ask my friend for the **public address** of his wallet (in the same principle as an IBAN for banks, the public address corresponds to the ID of a wallet)

3. I create and send my transaction of 1 BTC + potential network fees (the fees will go to the validators)

4. My transaction is sent and it is received by the different validators of the network. (This step and the next one will have different modes of operation depending on the type of blockchain "**Proof of Work**" or "**Proof of Stake**". I invite you to finish this article before learning about their differences). My transaction and all other transactions with the same fees as me are placed in a **block**. A **block** is a big virtual box where we store a quantity of pending transactions. You can see them in real time via the [following site](https://txstreet.com/v/eth-btc) which represents the blocks as a bus. Buses are blocks with specific fees that will fill up with transactions (little guys) before leaving for validation.

5. On the different validators of the network, only one will take charge of the block and thus my transaction to validate it. He will be able to validate it by checking if I have the 1 BTC in my wallet. To do this, it will go through my previous transactions that I have made directly on the blockchain. He will give the whole block a precise identification code to find it and he will validate it. As a reward, he will receive the fees + a potential reward from the network.

6. A new block has just been added to the big library, and my friend has received my BTC. A blockchain is therefore a series of blocks that are linked together by identification codes, hence the name "block chain".

All this mechanism works autonomously without the need of a superior entity. Here, security is ensured by the validators, the public blockchain and by very precise validation protocols. 

On the market, a bit like for banks, you have tens or even hundreds of different blockchains, but why ?

## What is a blockchain used for ?

As I said above, a blockchain allows to validate **transactions** but the word transaction has a wide meaning. Indeed, on a blockchain a transaction can be a purchase of a token, a sale, a deposit of money, an action in a game, the purchase of a virtual work of art (NFT), a validation of a transport .... In the end, a transaction is anything that requires validation and must be recorded in the blockchain. 

### The defi 

Via this big subtlety you can create on the blockchain, a whole ecosystem of projects allowing you to perform a multitude of actions in a decentralized framework. This is called decentralized finance or the "**defi**".

- **Gaming** ? Yes it is possible and all your important actions are transactions that are recorded ([Axie Infinity](https://axieinfinity.com/)...).
- **Borrowing** ? With the [AAVE](https://aave.com/) project allowing you to borrow or deposit cryptocurrencies.
- Buying **NFT** (virtual art work) ? Via [Opensea](https://opensea.io/fr) you can buy or sell NFTs or even create your own works.

Here are a few examples of what you can find in a classic defi. There are dozens of them, and to stand out, they will play on the **speed of validation**, on the **lowest possible fees**, on the **programming language**, on the diversity of the projects present... The most known defi is the one of the blockchain **Ethereum** but you have many others like the BSC, AVAX, COSMOS...

### The real world

The usefulness of blockchains tends to go beyond the framework of decentralized finance, which is still a niche market and little known by the general public. Nevertheless, blockchain is starting to be used by real life companies for different activities. The objective is to take advantage of a public network to offer new services to customers.

- In 2022, the company [Carrefour](https://www.carrefour.com/fr/groupe/la-transition-alimentaire/la-blockchain-alimentaire) will offer to his customers a blockchain technology applied to its organic products. Indeed, via a public network, customers will be able to verify the origin of the different products. All the steps in the life of an organic product are recorded (transactions), so the information is **accessible** directly via the blockchain. 
- The notion of **traceability** of a product also comes back to logistics like [DHL](https://www.dhl.com/fr-fr/home/vision-et-innovation/vision/blockchain.html) who are thinking about implementing this technology in delivery services.

## What can we conclude ?

Blockchain technology offers many possibilities with the promise of total autonomy from centralized entities. The systems have been around for several years and have proven their robustness.

The defi allows the emergence of new projects offering users solutions in various fields.

In a world where transparency is becoming more and more important, blockchain brings a real solution.

## What is the RSI in crypto ?

The RSI or "Relative Strength Index" is an indicator of the oscillator class.

Oscillators are indicators that will vary between a high and a low bound depending on market dynamics.

The RSI is surely one of the most popular indicators for chartist analysis and trading strategies.

However, it is often misused.

In this article you will discover this indicator and above all how to use it effectively.


## How to read the RSI ?

### The RSI formula
Just like other indicators, the RSI is based on a precise mathematical formula.

The RSI is the relationship between the average of the **x** previous rises and the **x** previous falls. The variable **x** here represents a parameter of the indicator that you can change. If you take a small **x**, you will consider the average of the rises and falls of few candles and therefore create a reactive indicator. Conversely, a high **x** will take into account many candles, and therefore produce a smoother result. The default **x** is 14.

### The limits of the RSI
With this formula, the RSI will be between 2 limits, one at 0 and one at 100. 

Within these 2 limits, you will find 3 distinct zones: 

1. The zone between 30 and 70 which is called the **median zone**. This is an interval where the RSI is in a normal state.

2. The zone between 0 and 30 corresponds to the **oversold zone**. Oversold occurs when there has been a big drop and therefore an imbalance. We expect the RSI to return to the median zone. This means that we can expect an increase in price in the more or less short term.

3. The zone between 70 and 100 corresponds to the **overbought zone**. The overbought zone occurs when there has been a big increase and therefore an imbalance. We expect the RSI to return to the middle zone. Therefore, we can expect a decrease in price in the short term.

The different zones are also parameters but I advise you to keep 30 and 70.

Now that we understand how the RSI is calculated and how to read it, we can start using it! 

## How to use RSI in crypto?

When we look at Youtube, we have the impression that the main use of the RSI is to play the passage of zones. When the RSI arrives in oversold it is necessary to buy, and vice versa.

In the example above, on the left the RSI is in overbought territory and stays there for a long time! Selling at this point would have been a big mistake. The RSI, like all other indicators, lags the price. As a general rule using the zone crossing **is not effective**.

I will show you 3 uses that will help you in your trading ! 

1. ### Chart Analysis 

When you look at the price of an asset you usually draw lines or shapes to understand the dynamics. This is called chart analysis. And you can do the same whether it is with the RSI or other indicators.

You can draw **supports** where the RSI bounces, **resistances** where it taps, and **triangles**.... for example in the example below, the RSI traces for several months a descending resistance (green line) where it has tapped several times. We could expect strong bullish pressure when the RSI managed to break this resistance. The resistance was broken to send the price and the RSI up to the overbought zone.

In general, the limits of the upper and lower bounds (30 and 70) are support/resistance zones.

2. ### RSI divergences

Once again we find **divergences** on a multitude of underlyings. The principle of a divergence is to identify **inverse dynamics** between the price and the indicator. If the price rises but the indicator falls, we have a bearish divergence. A bearish divergence means that we can expect the price to stop its upward momentum and start a generalized decline. On high timeframes, divergences give **very precise indications**. Same principle for bullish divergences. 

Unfortunately it's quite complicated to automate them via an algorithm. But I still advise you to pay attention to it !

A **bearish divergence** is clearly visible on this example. Sure the price went a little higher but it was a first indication that the bullish momentum was losing strength. The idea is not to close your positions entirely, but rather to force yourself to **take profits** when this happens. Conversely, on bullish divergences, this is an opportunity to enter the market as shown in the second example.

Divergences can also help you in choosing the strategies you want to implement. If you have developed bearish and bullish strategies, daily divergences are good indications.

3. ### The RSI coupled with another indicator

Earlier I mentioned that using the RSI alone is not a good idea. Nevertheless, taking advantage of these bounds to **confirm** trades is relevant. When developing trading strategies, you will choose a basket of indicators. You will need one or more of these indicators to set position entries or exits.

I decide to take the "Supertrend" indicator to enter a position at a specific time. The idea with the RSI is to confirm and define the ideal moment to enter or exit the market. We have made a [strategy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nj_1IiVQ28Q) with this indicator if you want to see.

For example, if my Supertrend tells me to enter, I'll check my RSI to make sure it's not overbought and vice versa. This will allow you to avoid buying when there has already been a lot of buying. And so you expect a return to normal, or a correction. With this technique, you will not enter on a big green candle but rather on the **following red candle**. On the long term you will optimize your trading. In the short term, sometimes this technique will prevent you from getting in when the market is rising sharply. This will deprive you of a good performance.

For automated trading, using the RSI in this way allows you to perfect your strategies easily. As a rule of thumb, you should consider trading on a **long term** basis where market jolts will be smoothed out.

## What can we conclude ?

The RSI is a simple but **effective** indicator. It is very often misused in the resources you can find on the internet. Via the 3 techniques above, your chart analysis and strategy creation will be enhanced.

When you have a trading strategy, do not hesitate to add the RSI to study the difference in performance, drawdown, winrate....

Systematically add the RSI on your charts to detect **divergences** that can save you a part of your investment.

Start building a precise **plan** if a daily divergence happens, DCA, profit taking, portfolio management...

### Deposit money and view portfolio

The account is created, all that is missing is money. As for the various exchangers, Bitget offers several solutions for depositing money.

## How to trade on Bitget ?

Bitget has a **strong expertise** in the future market with large volumes. The spot market is also present for DCA or long term hold.

To start with the futures you need to go to the "Futures" tab and click on the first option "USDT Unified Account".

Here you will find all the fundamental information for trading : 

- On top, the list of all available pairs
- In the middle, the TradingView emulator. You can add default indicators or draw on the chart. The graphical analysis is recorded even if you move between the different pairs.
- At the bottom, the list of your current orders and the history of your future transactions.
- On the right side of the chart, the order book with the current buy and sell orders.
- On the left is the area to enter LONG or SHORT.

We will detail this area.

The principle is the same for a **LONG** or a **SHORT**. To make a transaction you have to define a price. Either you choose the best possible price at the moment, thus the **market price**. Or you want to execute the transaction at a specific price, i.e. a **limit price**.
This choice is to be defined in the upper choices. The Trailing Stop will allow you to automatically adjust your exit price according to how the market behaves. For example you enter a position and set your SL (Stop Loss) to 3%. If the price rises the Trailing Stop will update your SL to 3% of the current price. The Trailing Stop allows you to follow the trend.

For the limit order, be aware that your order will remain pending in the order book until the price reaches the desired price.

In addition to the choice of the order, you should also define the size of your position according to the leverage.

If I were to summarize we have 2 types of fees. The **Maker** and **Taker** fees : 

- The **Maker** fee is the fee that is applied for transactions with a specific execution price. We are talking about **Limit orders** ! The Maker fee is **0.02%**.
- The **Taker** fee is the fee that is applied for trades with a market price execution. These are all **market orders** ! The Taker fee is **0.06%**.

Exchangers favor limit orders because they fill the order book so they create the market. 

If you have BGB (Bitget's in-house token) and you activate the BGB fee payment you automatically get a 20% reduction in your fees.

## How to copy a trader's performance ?

Unlike its competitors, Bitget offers to **copy a trader's trades**. What does this mean ?

A trader like you and me makes future trades on Bitget. He can propose a copy trading feature where the "copy traders" will copy each of his trades automatically. In the "Copy Trade" tab you will find a list of all the traders offering to follow them. You just have to click on follow and your future account will **automatically** copy all his trades. If he buys SHIBA in 50 leverage you will buy SHIBA in 50 leverage. 

When you study the performance of a trader you have 4 main pieces of information.

- **ROI** : The ROI or return on investment is the trader's net performance from the moment he launched the feature.
- **Cumulative Return** : The Trader's net gain since launch
- **NPL of copiers** : The most important information. It represents the earnings of all copiers. The trader can have a positive ROI and still have a negative copycat NPL. For example the strategy is not working anymore or it has made losing trades just after adding a big amount.
- **The AUM** : It corresponds to the amount invested by the copiers.

With this type of function you have to be careful. Certainly the person will not be able to move your money but you could take very bad positions without reason. You don't know what is behind a trader. **Moreover, past performance is no indication of future performance. 

## Some other tools on Bitget.

- **API management** : You can code trading strategies on Bitget. On your little character on the top right you find the API management. Choose only the trader function when creating an API.
- **Stacking** : You can stack different tokens to receive a remuneration in addition to the performance of the index. In the "Earn" tab you have the list of tokens and the annual earnings next to it.
- **The launchpad** : Invest in projects verified by Bitget. You will be entitled to rewards via the project token.
- **The Launchpool** : Invest in a liquidity pool and generate tokens based on your investment.
